Firstly, it's actually quite difficult to stay infected in the game right now. On the way into/out of every city, an Argent Dawn healer is stationed. If you pass them, you'll be healed of the plague. It is possible to run past them and skip your cure though, but make sure to stay as far away as possible. Other players can also cure you if they choose to, so try to avoid other players if it can be helped.
Find somewhere quiet to wait for the transformation to take place. When your 10 minutes is up, the edges of screen go red, and you transform into a slavering ghoul. You also get 5 new spells to mess around with:
Mangle: Increases your next attack by 20 damage and reduces the target's armor by 3%. 3 sec CD, Instant.
Retch!: Retch on the ground! Humanoids in it are slowed and infected. Zombies in it are healed. 30 sec CD. Instant.
Beckoning Groan: Beckon up to four zombies to you. They must not be in combat. 20 sec CD. Instant.
Lurch!: You and nearby zombies gain a temporary burst of speed, to help catch your food. Removes any move impairment or crowd control effect. 30 sec CD. Instant.
Zombie Explosion!: Burst into pieces, destroying yourself but infecting those around you. 1 min CD. Channelled.
Your Ghoul actually loses health unless you are attacking something. which a nice touch by Blizzard, forcing plagued players to attack others or die.
I hope they make it harder and harder to avoid being infected as the event plays out...the plague mutates or something like that....
Rice Crispies mascots. You can hear his reels and demos on his website, and sure enough, that's our Gnome.
andrade says the Blizzard recording was "the most secretive thing I have ever done" -- they didn't show him anything visually about what the character was or did, and apparently he wasn't even allowed to take the script out of the recording room. andrade also says that Blizzard is keen to let voice actors do their thing -- rather than giving direction, they let the actor come up with lots of their own reads, and then chose the one they wanted to use. It's almost hard to believe that Blizzard's voice acting is so good, given how hands-off they are (you'd think they'd aim to connect it with the art or animation in some way), but Blizzard fans know how well it works -- the voice characterisation in Blizzard games has always been terrific.
Very interesting -- while Blizzard's voices are one of the things that have really made their games successful, it's strange that they've never let us into the process more. Their sites are full trees. They could have made it easier to share gear by making two or three blood knight trees based on int and spell damage, but no...
So now I'm torn between making a gnome death knight for the sheer absurdity of it, and actually making a mechanically stronger character out of a human or knight elf. I'll probably wrestle with that decision for months before I actually get around to creating it, though.
